The Coach Behind JM Coaching

The Coach Behind JM Coaching:

Hey, I’m Jenny, the coach behind JM Coaching. Here is a little about me, because I think it is really important to know your coach’s background, where they have been, and why they do what they do.

Background

I was born and raised in the beautiful city of Edinburgh. Through school, I was always doing different sports, including dance, gymnastics, rugby, netball and sprinting. I loved sport, but in particular, dancing stole my heart. I knew from a young age that I wanted to pursue a career in dance. So, I put the work in and joined into 2nd year of a Dance college in Edinburgh at the age of 17. Training to be a professional dancer taught me many things, how to work hard, be resilient, and put the hours in to achieve anything you want. In my last year of training, I suffered a pretty challenging mental health period. I decided to grind my way through to graduation and after gaining my HND in Professional Stage Dance, I decided that the competitive dance industry wasn’t something I could be a part of anymore, and If I am honest, that was one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make. But I wouldn’t change it, as it brought me to where I am now.

Next Step

In the time when my mental health was the worst it had been, the gym became something that helped me hugely. But this didn’t happen straight away, if you saw me the first few times I went into the gym, it would be like watching a lost puppy trying to find its way around. I would feel incredibly unsure, and like everyone was watching me, I would go on a few machines, then leave after half an hour. I then got a PT myself, learn how to lift and decided that this was going to be my new career as I loved how it helped me, and the idea that I could help others in a similar way.

Coaching Experience

I got my Level 2 and 3 Personal Training qualification at a private gym in Edinburgh, and within the course, I was offered a job. At first, I shadowed as many coaching sessions as I could, learning, and soaking up as much information as I could, working with very knowledgeable coaches, then, it was time for me to go for it myself. I got my Precision Nutrition Level I and 2 whilst working alongside physiotherapists, and sport psychologists, helping people through rehab and get them back to loading after injury, I helped people lose weight, gain muscle, and I helped people become stronger than they could have imagined themselves being. And I loved it.

I spent 4 years at that gym, and in that time, developed into a confident, knowledgable coach with a great range of experience. Especially in strength training. Now, I am located at CaveFit, in the Edinburgh Grand. I have added the skill of taking classes, and continue building on my knowledge of strength training.
